Consolidating A2 Level Grammar

Present Simple • Present Continuous • Past Simple • Future with "going to"

Present Simple

When to use:

  • Daily routines and habits
  • General facts and truths
  • Scheduled events
Subject + verb (+ s/es for he/she/it)
Examples:
• I work in an office.
• She drinks coffee every morning.
• The sun rises in the east.
• The train leaves at 8:30.

Present Continuous

When to use:

  • Actions happening now
  • Temporary situations
  • Future planned actions
Subject + am/is/are + verb + ing
Examples:
• I am studying English right now.
• She is working from home this week.
• We are meeting tomorrow at 3 PM.
• They are watching TV.

Past Simple

When to use:

  • Completed actions in the past
  • Past habits and routines
  • Specific time in the past
Subject + verb + ed (regular) / irregular form
Examples:
• I visited Rome last year.
• She worked late yesterday.
• We went to the cinema on Saturday.
• He didn't come to the party.

Future with "going to"

When to use:

  • Plans and intentions
  • Predictions based on evidence
  • Things we've already decided
Subject + am/is/are + going to + verb
Examples:
• I'm going to learn Spanish next year.
• She's going to buy a new car.
• It's going to rain (look at those clouds!).
• We're going to have dinner at 7 PM.
